Estate planning is the process of organizing your estate, determining where those assets will go upon your death, and maximizing the benefit of those assets while minimizing taxes. Estate Planning allows you to make sure that your assets will go to the individuals and charities that you want them to after your death. It also allows you to create rules by which those people and entities will receive those assets. If your estate is large, you can also greatly reduce the taxes that would be due from your estate following your death with a smart estate plan.
